Exotic, Stunning, Captivating...

The Savannah Breed

Outgoing, and laid back. High energy....but not high-strung. Intensity with intent, clowns....always finding a way to be silly. Their best trait? LOYALTY!

In addition to their exotic appearence, the thing that really holds a Savannah highly in their owners' affections is their temperament and extraordinary personality.  There really is nothing quite like a Savannah cat.  Bright, inventive, intelligent, even ingenious. Playful, charming, and intensely energetic, the personable Savannah is very dog-like. Readily trainable, most love to play fetch, ride in cars, and love outdoor walks on a leash. Actually, a Savannah can be very much like a water-loving dog who’ll wrestle you for the garden hose, splash around in your morning shower, or wade through your bathwater. And their ability to leap straight up into the air is awesome.

Because Savannahs have so much energy they usually tend to tire out other pets, quickly looking for a new playmate or other forms of entertainment. Savannahs cohabitate well with other pets and assume the roll of Alpha cat without much of a challenge from other family cats. Many ask if a Savannah will get along well with the family dog; the answer is YES! Dogs make wonderful playmates for the Savannah. Because of their intelligence and energy level it seems Savannahs would rather befriend the family dog before other pets. They are full of limitless energy, and always want to be a part of anything you are doing.  They love water,  fluff up the base of their tails when excited or happy and in greeting.  Some will chirp like Servals or meow like a domestic, or both.  They are incredible jumpers and like to be up high.

If you're looking for a cat that likes to be with you, to play or cuddle, then a Savannah is for you.  If you want a cat that races through your home in spite of lamps, ornaments and other things in their way, the Savannah is for you.  If you want a cat that  makes you laugh, keeps you busy, acts like a clown, showers you with love, and is always happy to see you, a Savannah is for you.  If however you want a quiet, aloof cat that  sits around and looks prettyl, never gets into anything they shouldn't, never disturbs you or talks to you, then a Savannah is probably NOT the cat for you!

It is said that Savannahs have a similar brain wave to a dog's brain. Their desire to go for walks, play fetch, play in the water and following their humans everywhere are usually considered to be doglike characteristics. Savannahs are often chosen as pets by previous dog owners because they are a very playful and social cat breed. Savannahs are the best of both worlds and are a favored choice for the family who can't decide between a dog or a cat.

There are currently no established breed specific health concerns and the Savannah is considered to have a great deal of hybid vigor, being very strong and healthy. Savannahs are an extremely intelligent, high energy breed. They are curious, adventurous and crave interaction. They use a litter box and eat high quality cat food like any other domestic breed. Those who own or have met Savannahs are quickly enamored with their remarkable "catonalitiy", athleticism, loyalty and affection. While the high energy Savannah is not for everone, for many, a Savannah offers life long companionship from an exciting and engaging friend.

The Savannah is a hybrid cat that is the largest domestic cat breed available. The Savannah, has a tall and slim build. The male Savannah tends to be larger than the female, with the early generation males weighing up to 25-30 pounds. This weight should not be considered the norm for the breed, as on average they weigh around 10-20 pounds, depending on generation and sex.

Because of their tall, lanky build even the lightest Savannah appears much larger than it actually is. The Savannah is undeniably endearing. Their novel vocalizations, chirps and chortles make them an even more unique breed.
